Memorial Day represents one of the important cornerstones to our representative democracy. Soldiers, Sailors, & Airman that have given of themselves, and in far too many moments their lives, have done so to protect the democracy, our freedoms, our way of life. We should be thankful for people willing to serve, and understand why a strong military with such selfless soldiers is needed. As a peaceful nation, history tells us a strong military is one less likely to be used to protect its people from nations that aren’t peaceful. Ronald Regan’s “America is, and always will be, a shining city on a hill,” is a beautiful guide for us into the future, and challenges leaders today to ensure such a dream endures.
